What is RSS?
RSS is a way of delivering frequently updated content such as news headlines, blog updates, or articles to a reader rather than the reader having to visit each site to check for updates. An RSS feed is a list of basic content Ė headlines, descriptions and date - on a website that gets updated with the site is updated with new content. The list tells readers when their favorite sites have new content to read without the reader having to visit the site to check it.
How can I receive RSS feeds?
Instead of visiting each site you are interested in, youíll use a tool called an RSS news reader, news aggregator or headline viewer to find out what is new. News readers allow you to subscribe to, update and display RSS feeds. Some people say itís like having a newspaper filled with only the content you like and nothing else. Once you are subscribed, the news reader will check the RSS feeds you are subscribed to and display new content in the reader. This eliminates the need for you to go to each individual site and check the site for new content.
How do I get a news reader?
Many readers are available for free or cost very little. Some are downloadable to your desktop, others are web-based or browser-based. Each news reader has similar features, but they are all a little different from one another. The best way to know what works best for you is to do a little research on the features and benefits of each. We have included links above to some popular readers for your convenience, but you can use any reader to subscribe to Build Your Firmís RSS feed.
Once you have a reader you are ready to subscribe the RSS feeds. When you come across a site that offers a feed, you will see a small icon that says RSS or an icon for one of the more popular readers. Use these icons to subscribe to that feed. The help menu for the reader you choose should walk you through how to subscribe to a feed.back to top
